Lee Vidor is a literary novelist writing on the subject of artists and bohemians and the development of 20th Century Modernism. On how our contemporary world was created.

Also on the themes of love, sex, death, art and the bohemian milieus in which they inspired artistic greatness.

Three novels are currently published on this website. You can read free excerpts on the Novel Excerpts page.

In addition you can read free excerpts from 4 books in the upcoming 20th Century Bohemians and Angels novel cycle.

This novel cycle is an extended work of fiction which explores the Modernist Renaissance of the 20th Century, and the artists who created it. All of the books are completely independent narratives. They can be read in any order.

Lee Vidor is the first to define and explore the 20th Century as a Modernist Renaissance.

You can read from all the books on this website free of charge. Links are below.

All the books have lots of characters and story and are full of friendly little words which are suitable for reading anywhere by any adult. Including non-native English speakers.

They are also full of the themes which make up all our lives.

All of them have a good deal of eroticism and laughter in them. Lots of other dangerous things too. If you don't learn something from them, then you're probably the best educated and most experienced person on earth. Also I don't believe you. The books are all historically accurate. This is how it really was for the people in these times and places.

If you are easily shocked you should definitely read them.

Also if you are an artist or a scholar or a lover of the arts you shouldn't miss the 20th Century Bohemians and Angels cycle. I suspect it may even be ultimately impossible to understand the 20th Century without it. Perhaps even the 21st Century too.

What was once bohemian is now mainstream. What was once modern is now postmodern. The novel cycle 20th Century Bohemians and Angels explores where we came from and how we got here.

You'll also enjoy them if you're a person who likes to laugh and have sex and be in love.

If you aren't such a person, I'm not sure I want you reading my books anyway.

This novel concerns the lives of the exiled artists and bohemians of Paris in the 1920s.

It is the first published novel of the 20th Century Bohemians and Angels novel cycle.

In the early 1920s a young American couple escape to Paris to fulfill their dreams of a bohemian life of art and liberation. There in the Montparnasse community of artists and exiles Gene believes he can finally write a great novel. Paris is undergoing a great golden age of art and expression, and both of them long to be a part of it.

Among the artists of Paris they find the world to which they have longed to belong. But it is a world which transforms people from what they have desired to become, into what they will always be.

What is expressed cannot be unexpressed, and encounters with the exotic kill the pleasures of the everyday. Paris is in a mad fever of inspiration, an erotic fever. Here life and art are not separated, and what is inside a person will reveal itself.

The story examines the nature of love and expression and the things which make us truly come alive.

20th Century Bohemians and Angels is a cycle of 12 novels.

Each work of fiction is entirely independent but thematically related. Each book is complete in itself and concerns different characters. The books can be read in any order.

Together they explore the Modernist Renaissance which took place throughout the 20th Century, and which made our contemporary world.

20th Century Bohemians and Angels is the first literary work to undertake such an endeavor, and the first work of any type which defines the 20th Century as a Renaissance.

The cycle attempts to create an integrated picture of the real lives of the revolutionary modernists and the bohemian milieus in which they lived and created all through the 20th Century.

It also tracks the socio-political developments of the evolving century, particularly as related to sexuality, self expression and women's liberation. Historically the 20th Century will come to be seen as The Century of Women.

Each book is an independent narrative dealing with a particular bohemian milieu. Characters both real and fictional are depicted together in their struggle to survive and create art, to revolutionize the world and survive their obsessive passions.

Ultimately there will be 12 novels in the cycle. The first 6 will be published in 2011-12. The following 3 in 2013.
